Our Story
Y todo comenzó...
¡De una manera muy simple!
A todos nos apasiona leer y queremos conocer a los mejores escritores. Una cálida tarde de verano, una escritora, un comunicador social y la ejecutiva de una organización no gubernamental intercambiaban ideas sobre cómo contribuir al desarrollo de su comunidad.
La escritora expresó su necesidad de contar con un espacio donde pudiera presentar sus trabajos y conectar con lectores. Fue entonces cuando decidieron crear la Primera Feria Latinoamericana del Libro, un evento concebido para conectar autores, escritores, ilustradores, diseñadores, artistas, amantes de la lectura y nuestra comunidad en la ciudad.
Ana, Edgar y Leity, llenos de entusiasmo, comenzaron a buscar patrocinadores. El concejal David Oh fue el primero en creer en la iniciativa y aceptar ser parte de este maravilloso proyecto.
Pocos días después, se sumó un pequeño grupo de organizaciones no gubernamentales, entre ellas Acción Colombia, Casa de Venezuela y Taller Puertorriqueño, además de un talentoso grupo de voluntarios que, con dedicación y compromiso, hoy conforman el comité organizador.
Desde aquel primer encuentro, la Feria ha crecido gracias al esfuerzo colectivo de personas y organizaciones que creen en el poder de los libros, la cultura y la comunidad.

How It All Began...
It’s simple. We love reading, and we wanted to create a place where the best writers and literary voices in Philadelphia could connect with the community.
One summer afternoon, a writer, a radio personality, and an executive director were exchanging ideas about their community. The writer expressed her need for a place where she could present her work in the city. When they couldn’t find an existing opportunity that met this need, they decided to create The First Latin American Book Fair—an event designed to connect authors, illustrators, writers, designers, book lovers, and our diverse community throughout the city.
Ana, Edgar, and Leity reached out to the Philadelphia City Council, specifically the office of Councilman David Oh, who graciously believed in the vision and agreed to be part of the project.
Soon after, a small group of Philadelphia’s influential Latino nonprofit organizations including Acción Colombia, Casa de Venezuela, and Taller Puertorriqueño joined forces with an amazing group of dedicated volunteers. Together, they became the organizing committee committed to turning this big dream into a reality.
What began as a simple conversation grew into a celebration of literature, culture, community, and the richness of the Latino experience in Philadelphia.
